Emergency Care

At Perth Veterinary Clinic, we know that your pet’s health is always top of mind and sometimes concerns come up when our doors are closed. That’s why we’re excited to announce a new after-hours service that keeps you connected to trusted veterinary advice, no matter the hour.

Starting September 2, 2025 you’ll have 24/7 access to licensed veterinary professionals through our partnership with Animal HealthLink (AHL), an award-winning Canadian veterinary teletriage provider.

Here’s what this means for you and your pet:

  • Expert advice, anytime: Speak with experienced Registered Veterinary Technologists trained in evidence-based protocols, with a 99.99% safety rating.
  • Small Animal Pet Owners: Avoid unnecessary ER visits: Determine whether your pet’s condition is an emergency or if it can safely wait for a scheduled visit during our regular business hours.
  • Large Animal and Producers: If it is an emergency, the on-call vet will be dispatched right away. If it’s not, you’ll receive clear, practical guidance on how to care for your animal until we open.
  • Reduce stress and save time: Get peace of mind by avoiding inaccurate, middle-of-the-night Dr. Google searches or rushing unnecessarily to the ER.
  • No extra cost: This service is part of our commitment to providing continuous, compassionate care.

How it works:

  1. Call our main clinic line at 613-267-7373
  2. Follow the prompts to reach after-hours support.
  3. Describe the issues your animal is having to the AHL RVT.
  4. Receive clear guidance on next steps. They will help you decide if your animal requires an ER visit, home monitoring, or we will dispatch the on-call vet.

Today’s pet owners expect on-demand, tech-enabled access alongside excellent in-clinic care. With this new service, we’re proud to offer the best of both. If you have questions about AHL’s teletriage service, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here for you anytime, day or night.

Large Animal Emergency Services for active clients, please call us at 613-267-7373 for 24-hour emergency care, seven days a week.

At the Perth Veterinary Clinic, we take great pride in being able to provide prompt and personalized care for our patients and clients. Unfortunately due to the ongoing shortage of veterinarians in rural Ontario, we are unable to continue to offer after hours emergency services for our companion animal patients (dogs, cats). This decision was not taken lightly, and we always aim to serve our clients and our community to the best of our ability.

We have a professional veterinary technician triage service in place to help guide you in determining the most appropriate care for your pet outside of our regular business hours. Please continue to call the clinic at 613-267-7373 after hours to speak with a veterinary technician who can help direct the best next steps.

For emergency assistance you will be directed to 24-hour emergency clinics in Kanata, Ottawa or Kingston.
Food animal and equine farm services will not be affected by this change.

Thank you for your business. We appreciate your continued patience and support during this transition.
